To the Pearl City

Well, this week started with me being back to normal. In short, putting an end to the never ending tours. Phew I'm SO tired and I'm tiring myself out by writing a post. What do you call that?

So, 21st night I missed the "Pearl City express" by 1 minute.
Ask me the value of a minute now.

We (me & mom) were half way up the escalator only to see the train leave. Luckily we evaded the 15 hr tiring-bus-journey by taking the Nellai express! lucky me! luckyyy me!! It was a special train (especially for me hehehe)

From Nellai to the Pearl City, then picked up by Gs men. R.e.s.t.
By the eve, we were all set to see virtuoso Sudha Raghunath sing. It was simply a treat. She sung some of my favorites -
Kurai onrum illai, Idathu patham thooki, Valli kanavan perai
. wow.
The "thani avarthanam" was amazing as well.

The next morning 23rd was cats' birthday and we wished him. Off we went to Gs marriage then! The marriage was super different. mj was there *winks*. Lots of fun, lots of photos and wonderful time (on and off stage) teasing friends to death!

That noon we left to MDU. I guess my Gramps bought the whole market for us to eat. I've put on 2kgs .....wwwwwaahh ;( later that evening at the Meenakshi Temple we witnessed "Mookuthi puja" and "Palliarai puja". The following day we went to thirupovanam and brought athai back with us. On the way we popped at Meenakshi Temple and bought LOTS of bangles.

That night I couldn't get myself to sleep, cos we had to take the morning train and I'm not missing another one!

Costly domain name?

It was tonight that I knew Naiduhall aka Naihaa* (an ugly outcome of the brand make over) has a domain name dispute.
Lamentable when you note the other fact that www.naiduhall.co.in is not completely constructed. So much for a store founded almost 60 years ago. Hmpfh.

*Naihaa to the common man is hardly pronounceable, let alone the meaning it translates to. "Nai" in Tamil means "Dog" and to add to the twit we can translate "Naihaa" to "Dog huh?" (I'll keep safe).

Perhaps there were no board-rooms. Perhaps no one knew Tamil in the board-room (apparently in Chennai) and perhaps, it is not just me who is annoyed at the frivolousness.
Either winning the disputed issue would prove costly (or) a website called naihaa.com would prove cheap (literally and figuratively).

Paint the "Hometown" red.

As a matter of fact, this post should be called:
"On a Temple spree - Part #2".
I never knew that a visit to my hometown can be clipped with SO many visits to the nearby temples. The day after Pongal, we were in our Hometown. I was drinking in the beauty and space of our house. Waking myself, filling me with ample memories -
Photos, photos and more photos.

The next morning, we (cat, ma, pa & appatha) left to Palani. To choose "Palani" of all places, that too during "Thai". Phew. But my never-say-die father finally took us there, got us squeezed amongst the thousands of devotees and brought us back safe.

The next two days were to be spent at "Pudur" my gramps birthplace and "Vegupatti" irrefutably appatha's birthplace.
So many relatives, so many feasts and more photos where-ever-I-go.

I chanced upon my forefather's photo, I promptly clicked it up.
Clicked it, not picked it! Thanks to the digicam, of late one doesn't have to steal photos :D

We skipped the trek to "Piranmalai" cos...
(A) it was late & (B) cat was unwell.
On the way back home, we stopped at "Samayapuram" (it was 9.00 p.m. and the temple closes at 9.15 p.m.) and in spite of the plight, we were invited to a good darshan.

At 3.15 a.m. our mpv screeched to a halt at my doorstep.
Later, I had a 12 hour sleep and here I am.
Again, It won't be blinks before I'm off!

On a Temple spree..

I finally did visit Mangalore!
Mangalore jaunt was a temple tour per se. In my opinion, it was essentially a trip to keep my devils mind occupied. The itinerary was super packed, drafted by dad, as Appa had very less time to spare this month (He is making room for another such chota’sa outing already, and that is progress). Appa as usual was in hyper-spirits throughout the tour. It was us who were fatigued and crawled to our beds.

The 8th of Jan, we took a train to Mangalore. I love trains, oh those college-days, so needles to say I loved the travel. To add to it was moms’ delicacies, even more delicious when eaten on train!
Books, Music and more books.
I was so excited, I did not sleep a wink. But grrrr, the sleeperlogs (a young man & an old) in my compartment ruined it. I was forced to my berth. It was already cold, can someone turn off the A/C.... waaaaaahh! :(

The 9th (around 5AM) we took a bus from M’lore to Kollur. The bus travel was pleasing in spite of the fact cat and me were standing throughout the 3 hour journey and boy it was cold!

9th FN we checked in, freshened and left to Mookambika temple, darshan was well organized (of course occasionally you’ll hear someone sternly saying “vega vega”) quite understandable when one has hundreds of devotees.
Ahhh I should mention, this place has NO mob-tower and the best hotel room has NO Television :| So after a typical Keralite lunch (Kollur is in Karnataka) a back to back darshan was done.
KJ.Yesudas appeared with his wife, it was so hard to get a glimpse of him. He sung a keerthana at the Saraswathi sannathi, (co)incidentally Sangeetotsavam'09 was scheduled there.
9 p.m. were back in our rooms asleep, I can never imagine that happening back here at home.

10th a late-morning bus to M’lore, luckily we had seats. The bus travel again was fabulous. Estuaries, prawn-farm amongst the forest! Picturesque.

At M’lore we checked in a suite. TV, A/C, geyser… wow. Yes. WOW.
That evening we shopped like maniacs and the next morning we went to Mangala devi temple. I was down with a bad appetite, so skipped breakfast and lunch and creeped like a snail with a paavam face.
No use. That very evening I was made to visit Gokharnath temple. But this one was fantastically designed and simply breath taking!
The snaps speak for themselves, don’t they?

Back to HOME!! Sweet home indeed! ;)
It wouldn’t be a few blinks before I’m off again!

Hard of reading??

The phrase "Hard of hearing" has nothing to do here. I'm inclined to say "Hard of reading" when I read perfectly illegible handwriting. Now "Spencerian Penmanship" (or simply cursive writing) is taught from Kindergarten, in spite of which people fail to write legibly.

In my teens, I have often wondered "What's with the Graphologists?", "How do they claim to analyze people by mere handwriting?" and many more alike questions.
Today find it easy to analyze them*: They* are hopelessly lazy (to correct the way they hold the pen).

According to me, good handwriting is no feat. You just have to correct the way you hold your pen. Pay a little more attention to the curves and lines (beauty!) and if you don't want to put in an extra effort not even God can help you.

Wisecrack: Not everyone is Da Vinci, but every child can draw. It is only when a child grows-up, it yields to the way of the world and learns to say: "Ooooooh me?? I can't draw!"
Ditto for singing, dancing et al.
Didn't you sing "Baa-baa-black-sheep" once?
sighs.

Talking about handwriting again, I was scared of writing neatly.
I may sound crazy unless I explain the adage. The Tamil saying goes like this:
"Kaieluthu nalla irundha, thalaieluthu^ nalla irukkathu"

which translates to "The one who has a good handwriting, will not have a good future".
Yeah. Apparently coined by the man with the worst handwriting ever.

However, this saying scared me to death(then). Today I know that even if the whole world writes neatly, it is not going to tackle the Economic depression (pessimistic cackle)

Twist the above saying and voila! you have this
"Kaieluthu nalla irundha, thalai eluthu nalla irukkum"
,
this is the other adage, contrariwise. Sans doubt written by someone like me, who prefers good hw to sad ones.

Totally unrelated.
Before I forget let me tell you two more similarly constructed adages, which work vice-versa
"Valathu kann thudicha, nallathu nadakkum" :
when your right eyelid quivers, good things happen.

"Ethathu kann thudicha, nallathu nadakkum" :
when your left eyelid quivers, good things happen.

"Valathu kann thudicha, kettathu nadakkum" :
when your right eyelid quivers, bad things happen.

"Ethathu kann thudicha, kettathu nadakkum" :
when your right eyelid quivers, bad things happen.

L.O.L.
Actually amongst the 4 sayings, it's hard to tell which is original and which is made up ;)

A few sample handwritings :)
That of a teen, ached girl. Anne Frank

Men who made their mark - MK Gandhi, Orville Wright and LDVinci (respectively)

* ones with bad handwriting.
^ thalaieluthu - The future written on one's forehead by Lord Bhrama.

Adieu..

Yesterday night, Gramps was back to Madurai.
ooh I'll edit this later
